| Abstract | Air pollution has been connected to an array of health outcomes, including respiratory illnesses. Many air pollutants have been linked to traffic exposures; however, it remains unclear as to what extent traffic explains local variation in air quality.; In this study, three diverse Southern California communities were examined to assess if there were statistically significant correlations between local variation in pollutants and the traffic exposures. This thesis examines measurements taken during both the winter and the summer seasons for approximately 24 subjects in each of the three communities.; Results show how specified air pollutants, nitrogen oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), nitrogen oxides (NOX), ozone (O3), and VOCs vary across communities and within communities, and how each of these correlate with traffic exposures of interest. In addition, a preliminary analysis of the association between these pollutants and asthma will also be provided. |
