| Abstract | Audio-related professionals aged 20-69 years were tested for hearing loss at various music association conventions from 1997 to 2006 (n=6772). Allergies and sinus problems had no significant effect on hearing status for this sample population contrary to other study findings. These professionals experienced hearing loss near 4 kHz and the magnitude of hearing loss became more pronounced for older professionals for both males and females. Hearing results for these audio professionals did not differ by ear, however magnitude of hearing loss differed by age and conference for both genders. Further education to raise awareness for noise-induced hearing loss and promoting usage of hearing protection against excessive noise should be encouraged in all noise hazardous occupational environments. |
