| Abstract | My thesis is an exploration of the duality of the photograph. On the one hand, the photo's ubiquitousness, mobility and regeneration have challenged its ability to convey its subject. On the other hand, a photograph still may have a quality that lends itself to a psychological reverberation in the viewer, despite all the questioning of indexicality that has taken place since photography's inception. Even further, there are certain potential qualities, inherent in any given photograph, that seem to suppress any explanation of the way a photograph may function. |
