| Abstract | In the wake of pressures defined by Thomas Friedman’s work related to the new “flat world,” Friedman, 2008), educators are acknowledging that a crisis is looming on the horizon. Increasingly, schools have recognized the realities of globalization and are working to create educational communities that prepare students to be global citizens. These schools must be subject to studies so that their best practices can be shared and replicated and so that students will be prepared for the expectations of a global job market and society. This case study examines an elementary school with an International Baccalaureate Program that addressed globalization, but then the district cut funding to the program so the school site stakeholders are working to preserve a theme of globalization while addressing the needs of the current school population. The ability to replicate this study will help other schools with similar demographics that are searching to implement a program focused on globalization. |
