Abstract | This dissertation deals with synthetic and conformational studies of biologically important compounds.; Chapter 1 is overview of lipid mediators that possess anti-inflammatory and promote resolution. The different varieties of lipid mediators and biological activities are reviewed in this chapter.; Chapter 2 describes our efforts in the area of design, synthesis and conformational studies of lipoxins and benzo-lipoxin analogs. These compounds are resistant to physical and metabolic properties. They have important properties as anti-inflammatory agents that are easy to synthesize and handle.; Chapter 3 details an efficient method for the synthesis of allyl boronates from allyl bromides by utilizing bis(pinacolato) diboron as borylating reagent. This chapter describes the Petasis three component reaction for the synthesis of γ, δ-unsaturated amino acids, that possess important biological properties.; Chapter 4 first surveys the current available methods for synthesis of organoboron compounds. A novel palladium mediated method for the conversion of alkenes into alkenyl and alkyl boronates is reported. A new conjugate addition reaction of diboron compounds with activated alkenes catalyzed by palladium is reported in this chapter. |
