Subject: Papa's Memory
Dear Peter:
Thank you for your letter of November 17, 1988 and for all your
work on behalf of Papa. Nevertheless hard work and good intentions
may not help memorialize Papa as he deserves. Let me review from
the beginning, our concerns for Papa and Omma.
1.0 When we first agreed to exhume Papa and Omma for burial in
Korea, one of our concerns was that Papa would not receive the
full and proper recognition he deserved. For better or for
worse, this fear has come to pass.
2.0 The question now may be:
2.1 How best to preserve Papa's memory.
2.2 How best his memory may serve his descendants.
3.0 In view of the small number of descendants in Korea and the
real roots of Papa's descendants here in the U.S., I suggest
that we consider the following options for Papa's memory.
3.1 The place for Papa's historical documents and history be
at USC or UCLA.
3.2 The place may be the beginning of a "Korean American
National Museum".
3.3 You could be a great help in establishing this museum.
3.4 The major financial contributions for the first stage of
museum would be organized by myself, David Hyun.
4.0 My thoughts concerning these options are:
4.1 Avenues may now be open to begin negotiating with
USC/UCLA., e.g., I am honorary chairman of "Friends - USC
Korean Heritage Library".
