"Soviet Union is sending the following Soviet arms to North Korea via rail:
50 SAM ground-to-air missiles
50 radar operated anti-aircraft guns
50 Helicopters
50 MIG-21 fighter planes
50 forty-five MM anti-tank guns
100 seventy-six MM self-propelled guns
100 T-34 tanks
The first shipment arrived in Pyongyang, North Korea, on March 1, 1966.
The contacts also learned the first made in China intermediate ballistic missile
with a range of 1, 200 miles was produced in Langchow, Kansu Province, China,
3-1, 1966.
Present at the ceremony were General Alexei Yexishev representing the Soviet
Ministry of Defense. Representing China were Mao Tse-Tung and Lo Jui-ching,
Chief of the General Staff of Red China1 s armed forces.
Accompanying them were four Chinese senior nuclear scientists. Two of these
scientists gave a five-minute speech. They were Ning Hu and Tsien San Tsiang.
Responsible North Korean officials In the Ministry of Defense seriously speculated:
f,If the war in Vietnam ? s not neutralized during the coming winter,
Red Chinese volunteers may join the armed forces of Ho Chi-Minh.
In such an event, the North Korean army must be ready to invade
South Korea. ,n
