iA. gheNorth-China Daily Hews - April 30. 1932, Korean BombCQutrage at Hongkew Park Seven Leading Japanese Officials Injured Infernal Machine Thrown Oh Stand At End Of Birthday Parade Perpetrator Mobbed By Crowd Minister, Army and Navy Chiefs and Consul General Among Victims A terrible bomb outrage marked the celebrations at Hongkew Park yesterday of tlie birthday of His Imperial Majesty the Emperor of Japan/ In the eyes,, of thousands of Japanese who" had witnessed the parade and review .of 10,000 troops, a young Korean threw a bomb on the platform where leading Japanese diplo.i7ia.tic officials and military and naval officers were standing. There was a loud explosion and when the shock had passed there were three writhing figures on the floor of the stand, and other members of the party were staggering. The injured include Mr. M. Shlgemitsu, Japanese Minister to China, Gen. Shirakawa, Commander of the Japanese expeditionary forces, and Admiral Nomura, Commander of the Japanese Naval Forces. Dr. I,. Kawabata, President of the Japanese Residents1 Association, was among thee injured, suffering wounds which are feared to be fatal. A young man, wearing a grey coat, be a Korean named Im Fung Kee, 25, a French Concession, was seized after he had stepped out of the crowd, had flung one bomb on the platform and had dropped another one on the ground* Only the intervention of the military police saved him from being lynched by a crowd which attacked him and beat him severely* Minister In For Long Hest Those injured in the outrage, which has created a. stir all over the world in view of the recent hostilities in Shanghai, are: Mr. M# Shigemitsu, Japanese Minister: Serious injuries to leg. Gen* Y. Shirakawa, Commander of the Japanese1 forces: Severe scratches and injury to jaw. Lieut.-Gen. K. Uyeda, Commander of tlie 9th. Division': Injuries to Admiral £. Nomura, Commander of Japanese naval forces: Hit by fragments and serious injury to left eye. Japanese Consul-General': Left calf penetrated President of Japanese, Besidents1^ Association: wounded over body, face and abdomen. Secretary of the' Japanese1 Ilesidents1 Association: to arms, but not serious. and afterwards discovered clerk in a laundry in the to 0 feet. Mr. Dr. Mr, K. Mural, Kawabata, Seriously Tomono, Injuries Mr. Shigemitsu, Mr* Murai and Dr. Kawabata were immediately conveyed to the Fuming Hospital where it was stated last night that the injuries to Mr. Shigemitsu would necessitate three or four months1 treatment* Three pieces of bomb casing were removed from his leg and it was stated that he had no fewer than 32 distinct wounds. Mr. Muraifs conditions is not so serious, but Dr. Kawabata was reported last night to be in a critical condition, the bomb having exploded nearest him and Mr* Shigemitsu. * The others were retreated by the nearest Red Cross unit but it was stated that Admiral Nomura is likely to lose the sight of his injured eye* Gen. Shirakawa was cut severely about the face and staggered from the stand with blood streaming from his face.
