College Presents
English Version of
Mozart's Work
First English performance on
the west coast of "The Marriage of Figaro" by Mozart,
will be presented especially for
students of the college and
their friends in the student
union tonight at- 8. The cast
will be the same as it was for
last night's performance, and
there will be no admission
charge.
The most important and interesting parts of the Italian opera
were re-translated into an English version by Dr. Hugo Strelitzer, director of the opera studio,
in collaboration with students of
the opera class. The production,
considered by many local musicians to be "the most interesting
experiment in the field of opera
production," v/ill be presented in
a concert version with costumes
and lighting.
Noted Guests
Among the noted musicians invited to attend the opening last
evening were Dr. Otto Klemperer,
noted conductor; John McCor-
mack, Irish tenor; Borris Morros
and Nathaniel Finstein, music
heads of major motion picture
studios; Dr. Richard Lert and Pie-
tro Cimini, conductors; Richard
Hageman, Ernest Charles, Dr. Ernest Toch, Louis Greenberg, and
Joseph Archron, composers; and
directors of the Southern California Symphony association.

Allan Lindquest as Don Basilio, a
teacher of voice; Robert S. Tev-
rizian as Don Curzio, a lawyer;
George Burnstein as Antonio, a
gardener; Lucy May Story as the
Countess; Florence Ahn as Susanna, her maid; Tomiko Kanazawa
as Cherubino, a young page; Siroon Mangurian as Marzellian,
housekeeper of Bartolo; and Hope
Frechtman as Barbarina, daughter of Antonio.
