Registrar discovers fifth change of record card
By Amy Alpern
Assistant City Editor
An examination of more than 35,000 permanent record cards by the registrar’s office has uncovered another illegally altered card, bringing the total to five.
The fifth record card belongs to an American student. International students were charged in the other changes. The document was altered by the same process as the others, said William Hall, registrar.
“Yes, I do connect this last finding with the first four. I definitely think there is a link,” Hall said.
The University Judicial Council will hold a hearing Wednesday to determine whether the first four students are innocfent or guilty.
The registrar’s office plans to bring charges against the fifth student to the council. Hall will represent the registrar’s office in the hearing.
It took an 18-member crew three days to review in excess of35,000 record cards. Two previous spot checks of the files did not turn up the altered card, said James Jones, executive director of Student Administrative Services.
Jones said he had the name of the fifth student, and was testing his staff to see if they would discover the irregularity.
“I had an idea that one more student had changed his transcript but I did not tel 1 the registrar’s office because I wanted to see if they

Campus Security officer will file charges for ‘unfair labor practice’
By Gail Asayama
Staff Writer
Charles Robb, a suspended Campus Security officer, said he is going to file charges against Carl LevFedge, director of security and parking operations, for “an unfair labor practice.”
Robb said Levredge was going too far by telling him he couldn’t speak to the press about a Security Officers’ Assn. matter. Robb felt it was interference with a unionization issue.
Robb’s decision stemmed from revocation of the Security Officers’ Assn.’s certification by the National Labor Relations Board. Asked whether association members would be able to respond to the revocation action, Levredge said, “They will have to come to me first.”
Levredge said the department was not trying to' prevent the security guards from going to the press, but he wanted the officers to come and get authorization first.
Robb said he will file the charges with the board for the statement Levredge made.
The Security Officers’ Assn. was certified by a hearing of the board in January, 1977. The association was an alternative to unionizing. The university then appealed the decision.
Abraham Siegel, the regional director of the board, revoked the certification March 31 by concluding there was an indirect affiliation with Teamsters Union Local 911.
Robb felt he could respond to the revocation as a speaker for the association, saying, “I am tired of them (Campus Security administrators) abridging our freedom of speech just for the sake of not letting their weaknesses show through.”
Robb said the revocation will be appealed. “It is not a revocation unless we let the certification as it is stand at this particular level.”
He said the decision will now go to the board’s rules and regulations committee in Washington,
D.C.
An association member felt the conclusion stating the group had an indirect affiliation with the Teamsters Union was incorrect. The union’s existence came into question when the city cut its funding last September.
The source said the association had made the decision not to become members of a union because there are sometimes hostile attitudes between unions and employers as well as higher dues.
The board report said the association had received assistance from the union.
Ed Davis’ spokesman backs alternate Republican club
By Robin Oto
Staff Writer
A meeting was held by state and county Young Republican officials to form another on-campus student Republican group, which was endorsed by a staff member from the Ed Davis campaign.
The meeting resulted in an argument between Trojan College Republican members and the new organization’s members over state and county Young Republican political divisions.
The College Republicans claim the new club violates the constitution by creating another Young Republicans group on campus.
"I was invited to attend by the people here who are disillusioned with the way the Young Republicans dub is being run.
Young people are turned off by corruption and it smells of corruption here. The best way to solve differences is to separate and form a new club,” said Nick Sorokin, student youth coordinator for the Ed Davis campaign.
“Individuals within the organization should get involved but they can’t do it with the Watergate atmosphere of college politics. The best way is to separate so one club can work for one candidate and the other for another," he said.
“We’re going to function within the right of the Republican party. There are two factions here — as of tonight there’s two clubs,” said Sam Martinez, a senior and member of the Beverly Hills Young Republicans club, who organized the meeting.
“It was a puppet meeting, for no other purpose than to air out their side,” said Larry Rolon, Trojan College Republicans member.
College Republican members contend the new group was created by outside county and state forces to create political support for another county group.
/The College club supports Ron Macdonald, a UCLA student, as Los Angeles County chairman while the Young Republicans reportedly support as chairman Carl Olson, former interim chairman of the county group.
Olson and Macdonald have conducted separate organizations because the state board of directors recognized Macdonald as chairman while Jim Worthen, state chairman, has recognized Olson.
Some College Republicans feel the Davis staff member was brought to the meeting because the new Young Republican faction supports Davis, who needs support from the Republican student body here.
“Nick Sorokin was the intermediary in bringing the Davis people and Worthen and Olson’s section together to receive the LA County Young Republicans endorsement for Ed Davis,” said Steve Ohannesian, vice-president ofthe Trojan College Republicans here.
“If our organization is overthrown by this new group on campus, they will get the Davis endorsement by putting more conservatives in,” he said.

SMOKE GETS IN YOUR EYES — The Student Administrative Services Building was evacuated after a boiler overheated and filled the building with smoke. A Campus Security officer said it was not necessary to call the fire department because the situation was handled before any fire could break out. A crowd of about 100 staff members and students gathered outside to socialize; some played poker on the grass. The crowd reacted to the evacuation as an afternoon break and booed when it was announced they they could reenter. DT photos by Paul Rodriguez.
