The Southern California
Track Rally Tonight, Chapel
“Go Forward” Friday Chapel
Vol. VII.
No. 87
NIGHT RALLY PLANS COMPLETED
HER THAN STABS,
Bears Will Bring Thirty Men to Compete Against Trojans Saturday Afternoon
Pole Vault Probably Belongs to California — Officials Have Already Been Chosen
California’s track team will arrive in the city Friday night and will be put up at Hotel Hollenbeck. Thirty men. including the coaches, will make up the party. Graduate Manager Johnny Stroud will probably be in attendance.
Faith in Individuals The Hears are putting more faith in numbers than in individuals. There are no world-beaters in their ranks and few real stars. Preble is oer-haps their best man. but he is not in the class with the Southern steeplechasers. According to Northern sport critics, the visiting team will be particularly well balanced. In their class meet every race was closely contested. The Bears will be able to make a strong bid for second and third places.
Pole Vault Cleanup In the pole vault California is counting on a cleanup. Nichols, Fris-bie and Graves are all doing twelve feet. If they succeed in shutting out the Trojans it will be the first time since before the davs of Charlie Borgstrum.
Fred Teschke. Troian manager, has announced the following officials: Referee, Seward A. Simons: starter, Hoi) Weaver; clerk of course, J. B. Irsfield; assistant, B. Creswell; finish judges, Wallace Robb. H. R. Boynton, \\. B. Hemrod, T. Whitney, Half Noble; field judges, Hugh Willett, Ben Freese. Jim Donahue, Bob Marion, E.
B. GritTen, J. B. Threlkeld. Harry Trotter : timers, Owen Bird, William " itner, Otto Frick: inspectors. Cat). I'ranklm, Mow Mitchell. Seward C. Simon', Owen Bird: a nnouncer, Tom Donehue. •
Student rates for the meet will be offered until Friday afternoon, accord-"Ur to Manager Fred Leschke. After ’nat time regular prices will be charged.
“Bill” Bradley, Sprinter and Track Captain who will be seen Saturday in California meet.
The regret of Captain Wilbur Bradley’s life is that he cannot lead yells and lead the track team too.
In years past Bradley has been obliged to compete with Drew, and consequently to take second place. In Drew’s absence, however, he will come in for his share of first honors in the dash events.

Dr. Bovard Will Explain How the Class Goes Swimming, Enjoys "Eats, Students May Help in the Hears Readings, and Races
Great Campaign Through the Clouds
The announcement made in yesterday’s “Trojan” that on Friday Dr.
J Bovard would address a gathering of all the students in the chapel, has ! created widespread interest, and it seems probable that a record for attendance will be made tomorrow when the meeting takes place at 11:40. The faculty is planning to be present in a body, and it is expected that every - student who can possibly do so will attend and hear the first full statement of details for the inauguration of the University’s great campaign which, it is hoped, will result in an addition of $2,000,000 to our endowment.
Students of all classes may attend, even though the Friday chapel is ordinarily reserved fur upper classmen.
Leaving the campus at 3:00 o’clock Tuesday, the members of the senior class journeyed in trucks to the beach on the most successful picnic ever held by the class.
The party, chaperoned by Dr. and Mrs. Allison Gaw, and Dr. Benjamin Stelter, visited Ocean l'ark, where a swim was enjoyed.
The class then went to Santa Monica Canyon where typical picnic “eats” were served.
In the evening around a blazing camp fire a prpgram of readings by I)r. Gaw, Mrs. (Jaw and Ugene Blalock, kept the crowd merry. Returning they stopped at Venice for a race j through the clouds. The seniors re- ; fused to say at what hour they reached home, except that “it was early.” j
A rally, with every possible significance that the word implies, yells, bells, drums, songs, “peppy” speeches, and several unheard of features in the way of rousing enthusiasm will be ushered in tonight in the m.iversity chapel at eight o’clock sharp.
That bewitching Women’s Glee Club—some call them girls—will be "there a million” with new songs, and a breezy stunt. The Men’s Glee— young men—will stage a little skit entitled “Fool Uni Quick.” (Maybe they will.) These same young men will also indulge in a little c’ose harmony, and Don Cameron, a r<_-al funny fellow, will unburden hirnsc f of more or less “comedy."
Ugene Blalock and Homer Watson will engender the “pep.” Coach Dean Cromwell, Doctor Stelter, and Fred Teschke are scheduled to worry through a few speeches. Besides these events Arthur Chapman, president of the student body, has hinted at several surprises. And our jumpers, hurdlers, sprinters, putters, hurlers, runners, and vaulters, will be hanging around hungry for bear meat.
MEMBERS OF TENNIS TEAM ARE ANNOUNCED
I’lay for places on the Varsity Women’s Tennis Team is completed and the members of the team are announced: Jessie Grieve, first; Frances Beveridge, second; Gladys Cohn, third; Nellita Schlotte, fourth. The team will not make any northern trip this year on account of financial reasons, but will meet Hollywood Junior College, Pomona, and Occidental late in the season. A women’s intercollegiate event is offered this year at the annual Ojai tournament at Nord-hoff. and it is probable that the first two I’. S C. players will enter
No challenges may be made until after the Ojai tournament.
