Dr. Frank Baxter, English; Dr. Paul Saltman, biology; Dr. Herman Harvey, psychology; Dr. Russell Caldwell, history; and Jo‘in Crown, music, all voiced their opinions on the academic situation.
In addition to liaiiv Trojan editorials on the subject, administrative views from President Norman Topping and Vice President Tracy E. Strevey (then dean of College of Leters, Arts and Sciences) were printed.
An editorial summed up USC’s position in the “publish or perish“ situation as a university which must have both research and teaching with the emphasis on teaching.
