SC Summer School Classes Begin Today
Fairless Misses-3566 Hit ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Grads Get Diplomas
Tho University of Southern California graduated 3566 men and women at its 69th annual commencement exercises. Ceremonies for the class of ’52 were held Saturday, June 15, in Alumni Memorial Park on the campus in front of Doheny library.
President Fred D. Fagg Jr. announced degrees of bachelor of *ts for 2176. A total of 904 redegrees of master of arts, diplomas conferred were Octor of dental surgery, 100; doctor of education, 33; doctor of medicine, 66; doctor of pharmacy, four; doctor of theology, two; doctor of philosophy, 71; bachelor of iaws, 92; navy commissions, 51; air force commissions, 65.
Honorary Degrees
Honorary degrees were conferred upon three men by President Fagg.
Benjamin F. Fairless, chairman and president of the United States Steel corporation, who was to have delivered the commence-t address, received a doctor in absentia. It was ac-for him by Alden G. president of Columbia-
Geneva and Consolidated Western Divisions of U.S. Steel.
Admiral William H. Standley, USN, (ret.) former Chief of Naval Operations and wartime ambassador to the Soviet Union, received an honorary degree of doctor of laws.
Dr. Loren Roscoe Chandler, dean of the School of Medicine at Stanford university, received an honorary degree of doctor of science.

Economic security cannot be gained by avoiding risk, for there is no security without .opportunity, and seldom is there opportunity without hazard. Benjamin F. Fairless, Chairman and President of U.S. Steel corporation, said in his commencement address. The speech was delivered in Fairless’ absence by Alden G. Roach, President of Columbia-Geneva and Consolidated Western Steel Division of United States Steel Company.

Ninety-One Visiting Faculty Members Listed for Classes
Ninety-one visiting faculty members, from Maine to Hawaii, began their initial classes for the six and ten-weeks Summer Session of the University of Southern California today.
The total student enrollment is estimated to be below
that of previous sessions, Dr.
Registration of Musical Kids Set for Today
Registration for summer classes for children in the preparatory department of the School of Music at the University of Southern California will be held Monday, June 23, from 9 a.m. to noon at 943 W. 36th Place, it was announced today.
Piano, brass instruments, woodwinds and violin will be taught twice a week in beginning and intermediate classes. Information is available by calling Richmond 2311, Ext. 359.
John D. Cooke, director, said, but final figures will not be known until the final day of registration Wednesday.
Three college presidents, department heads, supervisors, administrative officers, and directors are included among the guest instructors.
Presidents
Dr. Arnold E. Joyal, president of Fresno college; Stuart F. Mc-Comb, president of Compton College, and John .Lounsbufy, president of San Bernardino Valley college are numbered among the visiting faculty members.
Dr. Charles A. Moore, professor of philosophy from the University of Hawaii, will conduct two classes. Cleanth Brooks, professor of English, and Dr. Samuel Miller Bxownell, professor of Educational administration, both from Yale University, are scheduled to give classes.

Top Officials To Teach at Civic Center
Three of the federal government’s top administrators will teach in the summer session of the Civic Center division of the University of Southern California starting tomorrow, according to Dean Emery E. Olson of the School of Public Administration.
Donold C. Stone, director of administration for the Mutual Security agency; O. Glenn Stahl, executive vice chairman of the Federal Personnel council, and W. Russell Cox, assistant chief of employment for the Civil Defense administration, will each teach two weeks of graduate courses in problems of organization and management and personnel management.
