The publications researchers combed through injury databases, comparing data from individual cases of injuries, looking for pat terns between people who stretched and those who did not stretch, according to the journal While increased flexibility that comes from stretching is typically believed to prevent injuries, the journal leported that most injuries that resulted from ejercise found in the study were in the normal range of motion, so slielihing would not have made a difference But Bob (Jirandola associate professor of kinesiology al US( said that being flexible could |>ie vent injui les. Student-athletes with a LOcumu lative GPA or higher in the fall semes ter were eligible for the event at the Galen Center, which was organized in relation to with National Studenl Athlete Day on April 6 USC Athletic Director Mike Garrett spoke at the event and praised the athletes in attendance "This is truly what USC is all about." he said "That’s young people who are well rounded who are out tompeting in the c lassinoni. and c an athletically compete with anyone in the country and win national championships' Garrett said that when he came in as athletic director about II years ago. the president had definite ideas about what kind of student-athletes he was looking for. "The president said. This is what we want to do." By SUSAN TAM Staff Writer I he USt College Republicans kicked off the first night of their annual leadership conference Monday evening in the lopping Student Center with featured speakers Claude Parrish, who spoke about economic leadership and Rep John Shadegg (RAriz.) who spoke about political leadership and Homeland Secunty. About 25 people attended, including the Terrorism and Homeland Security and Public Policy dass taught by F.rroll Souther s. a fortner FBI agent Claude Parrish is the current Vice-Chairman of the Board of Equalization. The Board is made up of four people who act as a final appeals body in administrative procedures involving taxpayers. Parrish said The board hears 30 to 60 cases twice a month, he said. "We grant relief to tax (Myers in about 40 percent of cases."
