Graduates want own senate
Undergraduates resist proposed separation
By Bill Swindell Strff Wmrr
A group of graduate student senators, citing improper allocation of money and different concerns from undergraduates, has initiated a petition drive to create a separate Graduate Student Senate under
Santa’s Helper
the auspices of the Graduate School.
Organizer? of the effort say they have submitted 800 signatures to the Graduate School so far and hope to submit their proposal to the Office of Student Affairs as soon as they believe they have enough signatures from the 14,000 members of
the graduate student population.
Undergraduate senators were quick to dismiss the petition and said the graduates were going behind their backs and not putting enough effort into making the senate successful.
Tara Brigham, senate president, said the graduate senators were "acting like little kids" in their efforts to separate (See Petition, page 16)

Hepatitis investigation targets dining facilities
By Andrew Vrees
Staff Writer
The number of hepatitis cases on campus jumped to 47 during the weekend, but a Student Health Center official said the university and the Los Angeles County Board of Health are closer to finding the cause of the virus.
"The Board of Health said it is close to narrowing it down," said Dr. Ronald Mandel, director of the health center.
The investigation is targeting dining facilities on campus, said Dr. Roshan Reporter, an investigator with the Board of Health.
"What we see now points to some place on campus," Reporter said. "At this point I am not willing to point a finger."
There are so many different possible sources on campus it will be difficult to pinpoint one, but Reporter said that by interviewing students, they hope to find the origin of contamination.

Student raped at Trojan Hall; plans not to prosecute
By Roger Tefft
Assistant City Editor
A female student living in Trojan Hall has reported being raped in her room on Thanksgiving Day, but she has elected not to press charges, police said Monday.
"Basically, we have a zero," said Detective John Campbell of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The victim told police that she knew her attacker and that he is a university student, Campbell said.
The investigation was sus-
pended, however, after the district attorney's office reviewed the case and did not recommend prosecution, he said.
The victim told police that she was attacked while asleep in her room early Thursday, Nov. 23, said Sgt. John Lewis of University Security.
The assailant entered the room between 2:20 and 2:45 a.m., apparently without force, and raped her, Lewis said.
