After nearly 10 years of planning, the provost's office gave preliminary approval to plans for a new health center and new campus center last week The plans will go to the Board of Trustees later this spring for final approval.
The process began in 19% when the student body approached the
school with complaints of insufficient campus facilities, presenting student surveys and comparative studies of other academic institutions.
The intervening decade's work of constructing a fully researched proposal was partially concluded last week as both pro|ects were given conceptual approval by the provost. Each project was approved separately

Birken said. "If someone's running for this job, they’re running to represent the students, not for the money. Ten thousand dollars is a lot of money to give to an organization or to be split between (groups)."
Birken and running mate Tony Liao might not know a lot about Senate, but they know it could be better, and they know they could help it improve, Birken said.

Administrators, DPS officials and students gathered to define free speech at USC.

Several campus organizations joined together Tuesday for a free speech symposium on the steps of Tommy Trojan in order to inform students about their First Amendment rights.
The panelists at the symposium included Carey Drayton, assistant chief for the Department of Public Safety; Heather Larabee, director of campus activities; and three student presidential candidates, Chase Tajima, Senate

"We felt the student body isn't informed about their free speech rights," said Lizzy Paulson, director of special events for Program Board. "We want to inform students about their rights and clarify what they can and can't say."
Paulson began the discussion with a question for the five panelists.
“Free speech: when, or should, it be limited at all?" Paulson asked.
Tajima responded that the only time we should restrict free speech is when it causes danger to someone else.

Student Senate approved a referendum last night to add to election ballots a question it has wanted to ask students all year: How should Senate structure its legislative branch?
On Tuesday, the first day of voting, students will be able to say “yes" or "no" to "the formation of a school-wide committee that determines the restructuring of the legislative branch of Student Senate."
