Housing spaces likely to open up, officials say
Residence: Waiting list likely to receive contracts; third year of housing crunch By ADINA DIAMOND
Suff Writer
Students who were not offered assignments in Phase Four of the R3 Process get on the waiting list while investigating other options, and spaces are likely to become available.
said Jeff Urdahl, director of Housing Administration.
The deadline for the wait list is 5 p.m. today. Students may sign up at any Customer Service Center, in addition to the Housing Services Office in Parking Structure X.
New random lottery numbers will be sent to students' campus addresses and will be posted in CSCs March 30, and assignments will be offered beginning April 10. Students offered housing have 24 hours to decide if
they want the specific space offered Assignments will continue to be made available 'until August 22 or until the waiting list has been exhausted, which ever comes first
Although "its reasonable and prudent to be looking at other options," students should not despair because housing spaces will open up, Urdahl said.
"Its too soon to be losing all hope, "Urdahl said. "We know people that have contracts will cancel out"
Urdahl also said that although students want immediate assurances of housing, they need to be aware that the R3 process is constandy changing.
“It’s a real fluid process,” he said. “It’s a time of a lot of flux.”
Housing will come from a variety of factors, Urdahl said. Spaces will open up in early April, which is the deadline for contract-holding students to cancel their assignment without penalty. Towards the end of
April, assignments of students who have been selected for Resident Advisor positions will be returned to the housing inventory. Spaces held by students who will be RA roommates will also open up. The last phase of housing will come from students who cancel their contracts by May 1 and lose their $300 contract confirmation fee.

For students in university-owned housing—who are required to #use HTS—phone calls made after October 1 are charged 104 per minute for all long-distance calls,

regardless of the distance and time of day.
Calls made within a 12-mile radius of the campus will remain free of charge.
In-state long-distance calls were previously assigned rates based on day, time and distance of call, while anything out of state cost 164 per minute.
“(University officials) felt they were charging out-of-state students, and even students calling friends out of state, unfairly,” said Daniel Rios, Customer Service Representative for Housing Telephone Services. “They
