He was in the front passenger seat when four suspects in a four-door vehicle of an unknown year and model began following them and fired multiple gunshots, police said. By VENUS LEE Daily Trojan A teaching assistant who attempted to organize a formal protest this month on behalf of 601 biology students has been suspended from his position. Professors of BISC-220, an introductory cell biology course, said Jeff Wurfel, a doctoral candidate in neuroscience, was suspended Feb. 15 for failing to fulfill his responsibilities to his two lab sections, not for his leadership role in organizing a protest. Wurfel sent an e-mail citing course complaints and suggestions for curriculum improvement to all of the students of BISC-220. an introductory cell biology course, two weeks ago. Wurfel. who completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees at USC, said his original method might not have been the best approach. and he wants to think of other ways to restructure the course. The course’s tests were insufficient measures of the student knowledge, and the lab sections were elementary and underfunded, he said “Students are afraid to say anything," Wurfel said. “They are worried about their grade in the class and their chances at med school. LAPD names victim shot near campus

Los Angeles Police Department homicide detectives are asking anyone with information about the fatal shooting of a former El Camino College football player early Sunday near campus to step forward.

A teaching assistant who attempted to organize a formal protest this month on behalf of 601 biology students has been suspended from his position.
