USC probes alleged recruiting violation
Trojan football recruit Joe McKnight might have spoken with former running back Reggie Bush before he signed to USC.
By DAN LOETERMAN
Daily Troian
USC officials are investigating whether top football recruit Joe McKnight violated NCAA rules by speaking on the phone with Reggie Bush prior to committing to USC, said Tim Tessalone, USC sports information director.
Questions about the phone call, first reported by the Los Angeles Times last week, arose after McKnight announced his decision last Wednesday.
During the news conference, McKnight seemed to imply that he spoke with Bush on a conference call with coach Pete Carroll.
Carroll, Bush, McKnight and
McKnight's high school coach J.T. Curtis all denied the conversation took place.
Curtis said thc whole controversy might have been fueled by a mis-communication during an interview last week with the Times.
The recruit told Curtis, “Coach Carrol] was talking to Reggie on the speakerphone and Joe was able to listen and hear Reggie Bush’s side of the story," the Times reported The Times then reported Curtis reversed his statement after speak-
ing with McKnight again anti hearing Carroll's denials.
Curtis said in an interview with the Daily Trojan, however, that McKnight never told him he spoke with Bush, and he was just restating what McKnight had said during the news conference.
"When I made that quote, I was saying that Joe said that to everyone," Curtis said. “When he corrected that, when he said, Coach I really didn't talk with (Bush) on a

USC students, faculty and staff were targeted with e-mails posing from the USC Credit Union as part of an Internet “phishing" attack early Wednesday morning.
Appeared to sent from a usccre-ditunion.org address, the e-mail directed students to a website that mimicked the actual USC Credit
Union website and asked students to log 011 with their username and
password.
From there, students were redirected to another website asking for their name, social security number and other personal information.

The smoggv haze looming over downtown's city lights indicate why two USC students have camped out on campus rooftops since Sunday *
In light of USC's failing grade in environmental sustainability.
Chris Kass. a junior majoring in fine arts, and Stephen Gordon, a junior majoring in international relations, wanted to demonstrate a possible solution through a “green" art project.
At the end of last month, the Sustainable Endowments Institute ranked USC among the bottom 12 universities in the nation that have the largest endowments but lack environmental consciousness
“I wanted this to be more than a project," Kass said "I couldn't
believe we were ranked so low environmentally and was wondering if students would care or respond.”
With the roof as their canvas, the two students carried about 105 pounds of grass sod and placed them on top of buildings each night as a representation of a “green roof '
Their purpose was to open up a discussion of just one of the many possibilities to make thc campus more environmentally friendly. (Jordan and Ka** said
