This year’s undergraduate admission cycle marked the most competitive year in USC history, admissions officers said.
The university set a new precedent in selectivity, admitting about 25 percent of the more than
37,000 undergraduate applicants, said Tim Brunold, associate dean and director of undergraduate admissions
"We admitted 170 fewer freshmen than last year, and that was intentional," Brunold said. “USC is really popular, and every year were attracting better and better students.”
With the caliber of USC students on the rise, Brunold is proud to call the university “one of thc truly elite institutions in the country." Admissions statistics for USC now parallel that of universities such as UCLA, he said
Rising SAT scores of admitted students arc one indicator of the university’s increased competitiveness.

Based upon a survey of 750 students, Undergraduate Student Government has committed to extending Lyon Center operating hours in the fall semester.
Senators passed the resolution unanimously on Tuesday, but US( i and administrators alike said much work must be done to achieve this goal.
In the resolution, USG recommends extending operating hours in the morning, evening and on weekends According to a USG survey, 85 percent of students want the Lyon Center to close at midnight or later on weekdays
Brian Braunlich. former director of university affairs who authored the resolution, said he believed the responses to be representative of undergraduate, graduate and faculty opinions, even though only undergraduates were surveyed.
“Watching how the responses changed from 100 through to 750, the percentages of responses didnt change as wc got more and more

In addition. Braunlich compiled a 57-page comprehensive review of the hours and operations of “the top-30 nationally ranked universities," including UCLA and the University of Michigan
Braunlichs research found USC to have “the sixth shortest weekly hours of operation” out of “the
third largest population" of top-30 universities.
“USC is horribly behind thc average,” Braunlich said "We stack up horribly against everyone else in the country "
Don Ludwig, director of Recreational Sports and one of the ad ministrators present at the meeting. said he supports the proposed changes
