An additional 7,000 square feet, dozens of internet and phone outlets, 14 interview rooms and a presentation room for 50 people will open on Sept. 16 in the Student Union basement. The new center, currently being moved from the first floor, will be used as a place for students and prospective employers to meet and hold interviews. Staff members who coordinate with the on-campus corporate recruiters will also be located in the basement which includes a lounge for the recruiters. "It moves us from having almost the worst space of the schools in the Pac-10 to almost having the best space of the schools in the Pac-10," said (See Career, page 2) Campus concerts, SAFE barbecue Spectrum will host two bands today. Mongoose, a reggae band will play music reflecting a variety of influences, including James Brown and Jimi Hendrix. Mongoose plays at noon in Alumni Park. Blackthorne Ale, a Los Angeles-based band will play at 5 p.m. today in Alumni Park. Everything from Celtic and American rock to Irish ballads will be explored. USC stands 41 among best national universities By Jennifer Kelleher Ci-« UMkw Man wnter USC placed 41st in the "Best National Universities" category in the annual "America's Best Colleges" rankings published by the U.S. News and World Report for 1999. USC also ranked as a school with a diverse student body; one of the largest proportions of undergraduate international students; and No. 28 (tied with Emory University) in terms of schools that offer the best value, according to the survey. About 228 national universities were ranked by U.S. News, and USC's placing in the top 50 showed that "we are at the most elite level," said Michael Jackson, vice president of Student Affairs.
