Anyone thinking ol purchasing an on-campus parking permit for next semester is too late — all approximately 11,000 spaces already have been reserved, said Brian dAutremont, director of transportation services.
It took only 20 days for students to buy up all of the on campus permits, which were available March 1. Nearly 1,500 parking center permits, however, are still available.
Although parking permits may be hard to obtain if drivers are unaware of sign up dates, there are many alternative;! for commuters who do not sign up early enough or who do not want to pay the $72 per month price, dAutremont said. Such alternatives include van pools. Metrolink. DASH and atreet parking.
Permit parking is also available at the Shrine Auditorium where approximately 200 spots are available each semester, said Jose Sanchez, general manager of Grant Parking.
Transportation Services aends out e-mails to about 28,000 students alerting them of sign-up dates as well as any major events or concerns that might affect parking, such as the Los Angeles Marathon, d Autremont said.
Though efforts are made to make sign-up dates known, it is inevitable that some people will not know about them, or forget them.
"I've never gotten on-campus parking." said Stacey Castaldo, a sophomore majoring in intemation-I see Farida*, page 1» I
