Although he cannot participate in Metropolitan Ti a importation Authority negotiations due to union campaign contributions, Los Angeles Mayor James K. Hahn sent a six-step proposal to the Los Angeles Department of Transportation to alleviate traffic congestion.
The proposal includes impounding illegally parked vehicles, adding additional traffic officers at high-travel intersections and using surveillance equipment to immediately deploy officers if there is a dramatic rise in traffic.
Illegally parked vehicles prohibit cars from continuously moving, said Sahar Moridani, press deputy for Mayor Hahn. Drivers have to maneuver around the parked vehicles, which slows traffic, she said.
The Mayors plan is to have the vehicles moved prior to rush hour traffic, Moridani said.
Hahn and the Department of Transportation are con-, centrating on relieving congestion with the aid of traffic officers in the Downtown fashion district and along Ventura Boulevard, where traffic has been most apparent, Moridani said.
