Lawrence said, "Once we gather up all the money that's donated, we will be submitting all the money to the Red Cross in the name of the USC-Mexico City Disaster Relief Effort."
The Red Cross will use the money to purchase needed medical supplies, he said.
"At this point, our goal is to raise $5,000," he said.

Victims of last week's earthquake in Mexico should soon benefit from the efforts of university students.
The Hispanic Assembly is sponsoring a USC-Mexico City Disaster Relief Effort. Assembly members will be soliciting donations to aid the earthquake victims from tables next to Tommy Trojan today through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., said Mark Lawrence, Hispanic Assembly chairman.
A donation box has also been placed at El Centro Chicano, on the 3rd floor of the United University Church, Lawrence said.
Lawrence and Frank Cardenas, president of the Hispanic Pre-Law Association, initiated the project.

"At this point, our goal is to raise $5,000," he said.
The Hispanic Assembly consists of eight organizations: the Latin Business Student Association, the Hispanic Pre-Law Association, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Movimiento Estudantil Chicano d Aztlan, Latinos for Health Careers, PUSH United for Mexican-American Students, Policy Alternatives for Central America, and the Hispanic Journalism Society.
The assembly comprises approximately 150 students.
"We, as USC Trojans, should do whatever we can to help out these victims," Lawrence said. He added that they challenge the University of California at Los Angeles and other private universities in the area to do the same.
Lawrence said students who wish to donate to this cause should make checks or money orders payable to the American Red Cross-Mexico Quake Fund. He said they cannot accept cash.

Another advertisement in the Daily Trojan yesterday said a seller had tickets for $85 that would cost $125 at a ticket agency. But Sunset Ticket Service said they had seats in the exact location for only $49.50.
Seats three-quarters of the way back in the Coliseum are being sold at the ticket agencies for around $75. Advertisements in the Daily Trojan for this location are in the $100 range.
Selling tickets for an inflated price is not illegal, Coliseum officials said, though they added that it is illegal to sell the tickets on the grounds of the Coliseum for more than the price stated on the ticket. It is not illegal to sell tickets at the Coliseum for the price on the ticket, they said.
A police detail will be outside the Coliseum to watch for people selling tickets at inflated prices, the Coliseum officials said.

Tickets are still available for the Bruce Springsteen concerts this weekend at the Coliseum, and it is possible to obtain tickets for less than the outlandish prices advertised by ticket holders and independent ticket agencies.
Ticketron and Ticketmaster, the original sellers of the Springsteen tickets, have tickets for the original $17.25 price with a $2 service charge. These seats are located towards the middle of the Coliseum and towards the rear.
Tickets will still be available the night of the show at the Coliseum box office for $17.25, if the show has not already been sold out. As of now, Friday night the 27th is sold out.
The independent ticket agencies are selling these $17.25 seats for $30 and up. These seats are generally located in the back of
the Coliseum, directly opposite from the stage.
In order to obtain the better seats — those not in the end
zone — tickets can be purchased through ticket agencies or individuals who are selling them through advertisements. But the prices vary greatly, even in the same location, depending upon who is selling them.
Ticket agencies who still have seats on the floor in the first few rows are selling them from $200-$300. A classified advertisement in the Daily Trojan was selling tickets, in the same area and for the same night, for $750.
Tyson Ticket Agency said the $750 price is a "ridiculous amount" and said the person
