Class in U.S. culture offered to visitors
For the international visitor to the United States who desires to improve his/her conversational English abilities and gain an understanding of American culture, USC’s College of Continuing Education is offering a three-week program in “English Language and the American Culture,” beginning July 18.
There will be a thorough orientation to Southern California through field trips and special activities, as well as twenty hours per week in the classroom. This will include listening and speaking, lectures, discussions and small group activities with Americans.
The program is open to all persons from outside the United States with beginning, intermediate or advanced levels of English proficiency. However, all must take an oral exam for placement purposes.
The instructors will be from the faculty of the American Language Institute.
Classes meet on the USC campus from July 18 to August
5. The fee is $1,170 (tuition $600, room and board $570).

Two Trojans named to PAC-10 squad
via and Finland.
An additional one or two games will be scheduled in the Soviet Union prior to the start of the tournament.
The invitation to the tournament was extended by the Amateur Basketball Association of the United States, and the trip will be co-sponsored by the Converse sporting goods company.
Others selcted for the team are: Brock Brunkhorst of Arizona, Butch Hays of California, and Keith Jones of Stanford, guards; Michael Pitts of California, Blair Rasmusssen of Oregon, and Brad Wright of UCLA, centers; Ricky Brown of Washington State, Paul Fortier of Washington, and Charlie Sitton of Oregon State, forwards.
Sitton, currently suffering from mononucleosis, would be replaced by teammate Darryl Flowers if he is not sufficiently recovered to make the trip.
The team will gather in the Bay Area for a week of pratice prior to departing for Moscow on August 20.
“This tournament is an unbelievable opportunity for the players selected,” stated Kuchen.
“It should prove to be a unique educational experience. It is an extremely positive development for PAC-10 basketball, and we are delighted the Amateur Basketball Association selected the PAC-10 to represent the United States in this important international competition.”
The Pacific-10 Conference will send an all-star basketball team to the Soviet Union to participate in the Gargarin Cup at Moscow, August 25-27, the league office announced last week.
Selected by the PAC-10 coaches, the all-star team includes USC’s Wayne Car-lander, a forward. Trojan coach Stan Morrison will be assisting Cal’s Dick Kuchen, who has been selcted to coach the team.
The PAC-10 all-star squad will represent the United States in the four-team tournament and will play against the host Russian National Team as well as the national teams of Yugosla-
Memorial fund established
The USC School of Accounting has announced the establishment of the Stephen R. Trotter Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Trotter, an MBA student in the Graduate School of Business Administration, served as a graduate teaching assistant in the School of Accounting. His death came on May 16 after a short illness resulting from cancer.
Individuals wishing to contribute to the Memorial should make check payable to USC School of Accounting and send it to Bridge Hall 306, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California,
90089-1421.
ON STRIKE - Food Service and Housing Employees make their position clear on the picket line. The members of the Hotel Employees and Retaurant Employees Union -Local 11 went on strike July 1, the begin-
ning of the new fiscal year. The strikers have been handing out flyers and carried signs demanding more guaranteed hours. The Commons dining facilities are continuing to function.
