Description	Photograph of Robert W. Kenny and an unidentified woman addressing the crowd at a birthday celebration for the Independent Progressive Party (IPP) of California. Kenny, the attorney general of California from 1943-47 and a civil liberties attorney, was one of the featured speakers at the party. Charlotta Bass, publisher of the California Eagle, is seated next to Kenny; she is wearing a corsage. IPP was formed on June 15, 1948, when the Progressive Citizens of America, Southern California chapter, merged with the Independent Progressive Party of California. The newly merged party supported Henry Wallace's presidential campaign in 1948.
