Charlotta Bass and other members of the Independent Progressive Party of California submit petitions to allow party candidates to appear on the ballot, 1948, Los Angeles(?)
Photograph of Independent Progressive Party (IPP) of California members submitting petitions to allow the party to participate in California's primary election on June 1, 1948. Charlotta Bass, publisher of the California Eagle, is second from right. The man on the right, standing next to Bass, is Reuben Borough, who unsuccessfully ran for California Treasurer in 1950 and U.S. Senator in 1952 on the IPP ticket. Bass, Borough and the unidentified woman with the broad smile wear campaign buttons with the slogan "Wallace in '48" proclamining their support for Henry Wallace, the Progressive Party candidate for President. The IPP was established in California in 1948 to support Wallace's candidacy. According to Bass' memoris, the IPP needed to obtain 275,970 valid signatures by Feb. 26, 1948 to qualify for the 1948 elections.
