Photograph of Charlotta Bass, right, receiving an honorary life membership to Hadassah at a meeting held in Los Angeles on Oct. 27, 1949. The woman in the hat presenting the award may be Sylvia (Mrs. Benjamin) Miller, president of the Los Angeles Chapter of this national Jewish women's organization. In her memoirs, Bass describes how she received a letter from Miller stating that "Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization . has voted to honor you as one of the 10 most outstanding women in this area. . As a women's organization Hadassah is proud of your splendid work and your devotion to the ideas of public service coupled with complete integrity of thought and action."
