Description	Photograph of a group of people who have received awards from the California Eagle, with the recipients holding scrolls. Christopher C. Scott, far left, was superintendent of the branch post office on Vernon Avenue, the first African-American to be promoted to this position. Sherrill Luke, second from left, in 1949 was the first African-American to be elected president of undergraduate student government at UCLA. He later became a lawyer, assistant city manager of Richmond, Calif., and a Superior Court judge. Phyllis Scott, center, was the church and youth editor of the California Eagle in the 1940s. The man standing third from right is Mr. Jones; the woman standing second from right is Mrs. Simmons. Rev. Clayton Russell, of the People's Independent Church of Christ, is on the far right.
