On the back of the photo is a typewritten caption with the following information: "Carmen de Lavallade and Rene De Haven strike exotic poses for their roles in 'Kathak,' streamlined Lester Horton version of authentic North Indian dance which will be premiered Mar. 31 at the Dance Theater in 'Choreo '51,' fourth successive season of modern ballets by Horton." Lester Horton, one of the founders of modern American dance, settled in Los Angeles in the late 1920s and later formed his own dance company, the Lester Horton Dance Theater.
